JOIN combines rows using ON. INNER JOIN includes only matches. Aliases c and o disambiguate equal column names. c.id = o.customer_id links each order to its customer.
Small example:
SELECT c.city, o.id FROM customers c JOIN orders o ON c.id = o.customer_id;
